The Dunes at Maui Lani is Maui's newest course.   It has many accolades for its links style design.   It is the only true links style course in Hawaii.     Nestled into natural sand dunes many describe the Dunes at Maui Lani as playing a Scottish couse without the chill.     Your have fantastic views of both the West Maui Mountains as well as Haleakala.

Kahili Golf COurse-

Waikapu, Maui, Hawaii

Kahili Golf Course is uniquely positioned on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains.   You have fantastic views of both North and South Maui shores.    They have really improved conditions and enhanced playability.   Kahili is conveniently located from both Wailea/Kihei and Kaanapali.   You will also find Maui's best rates for Juniors.    The trade winds play a large factor at Kahili.   Short holes play into the wind but will keep you cool.   We recommend playing Kahili in the morning due to the afternoon trade winds that can blow hard.

Pukalani Golf Club-

Pukalani, Maui, Hawaii

Pukalani Golf Club is located 1,100 feet up the slopes of Haleakala.  The fairways are tee lined with Norfolk Pines and thick country grass.  You can rest assured to make it to the greens as Pukalani is the only course with no fairway sand bunkers.  It is about 5 degrees cooler in Pukalani.   Pukalani is best played in the morning before the afternoon trade winds kick up.  The owner of the Maui Golf Shop, Clif Council is a teaching Pro at Pukalani.   Call him at 808-264-2350 for a playing lesson.

Maui Nui Golf Club-

Maui  Nui Golf Club is Maui's most improved course.   Formally known as Silversword, and Elleair Maui Nui is quickly Maui's favorite "Value Course". Kapalua Bay and Kapalua Plantation

When someone thinks of Golf on Maui, Kapalua comes straight to mind.   The Hyundai Tournament of Champions is held at Kapalua Plantation every January.   It offers a wonderful beginning to the years tournaments and what a great way to see your favorite players.    

We offer great specials with Kapalua and I wanted to share them with you as well as give a brief description of the courses.    They are courses that do not disappoint...

Kapalua Plantation

Kapalua Plantation

The Plantation course is considered one of the toughest and most spectacular golf courses on Maui. It has the widest fairways and largest greens but plays tight due to the elevation changes, sloping fairways and strong trades that challenge you on every hole. Bring extra balls as the waist high rough eats golf balls. Try to play with a partner experienced at Kapalua as local knowledge is a must to score well here. The par 73 should be 83 even for pros playing the first time! Remember to play safe whenever possible as most short and wild shots turn into lost balls. You will enjoy the Plantations big sloping greens.

The Hyundai Championship is played here every January with the opening of the PGA Tour season where the best in the world come to challenge one of Maui's best courses. Kapalua Plantation is best played around 10am to beat the morning rains that frequent the area.

Kapalua Bay

Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii

The Bay was Kapalua's first course designed by Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane in 1975. Clif, the owner of the Maui Golf Shop was one of the first assistant pros in the mid 70's. This course runs by the Ritz Carlton down to the ocean and offers some challenging golf on two short but tricky ocean holes when the trades are blowing. The back side is more sheltered from the wind and plays a little easier except for the finishing holes. #16 has a stream running down the middle of the fairway making your tee shot tricky with the wind blowing 20 mph into your face. #17 is a tough well-bunkered par 3 with a lake on the left for a long iron shot. 

Most enjoy playing golf on the Bay because of the ocean holes. Lava flowing into the sea created Kapalua which means "Arms embracing the Sea." The Bay Course has recently renovated their greens. They are in great shape. Kapalua Bay is best played around 10am to beat the morning rains that frequent the area. We have an exclusive mid-morning special when booked through the Maui Golf Shop. Wailea Emerald is the prettiest of all the Wailea Golf Courses, Wailea Emerald was voted by Golf Digest "most friendly for ladies". Don't be fooled, the back tees are no pushover. The name Wailea Emerald describes the great course conditions and color of the course. Wailea Emerald is a very nice tropical resort course for couples. There are lots of short fun holes and reachable par 5's. Birdies are probable for better players. Enjoy the amenities of Wailea's practice facilities with one of the better target ranges and chipping areas in Hawaii.

Wailea is home to 3 amazing golf courses.   In an earlier post we talked about Wailea Gold and Emerald.  Just second from Wailea Gold and Wailea Emerald is Wailea Blue (aka Old Blue) Golf Course.   

Some exciting things are happening for Wailea Blue.  They are moving their pro shop down the street to a brand new location in the heart of Wailea. Projected time of move will be in October 2014.  There will be even easier access to the course.   Right next door is a brand new Pizza restaurant Manoli's Pizza Company.   After a great round you can relax with a cocktail and a yummy slice of pizza!   

Wailea Blue is priced very well for the area.  Below enjoy more information about the course and some awesome pictures.

Wailea Blue- offers amazing ocean views at a value

Wailea Blue- aka the Old Blue was built in 1972 and is the second resort course on Maui.   There is a lot of history with Wailea Blue.   Still considered one of Maui's most popular resort courses.  Wailea Blue is conveniently located close to Wailea hotels and the new Shops at Wailea making this a favorite for visitors.  Wailea Blue is considered a "user-friendly" course with its wide fairways and large greens.  The average golfer will have an enjoyable golf experience.  Most players have their best scores on the Blue.   You cant beat the calm warm weather Wailea affords.  Priced generally lower then its sister courses- Wailea Emerald and Gold,  we recommend this course as a good resort value.

 First we will give a summary of what the golfers can expect on Lanai.

Expeditions Ferry To Lanai

The Lanai 36 Hole Package.   It starts with a ferry to Lanai at 6:45AM out of Lahaina Harbor.  You can play the Challenge at Manele twice as the Experience at Koele is being renovated.

You arrive to Lanai at 7:30AM where you are greeted by the Four Seasons Shuttle.   You pay them $10 for the day and they will transport you back and forth between the Ferry and two courses.   

Experience at Koele (closed)

From the ferry, you will be transported to the    Challenge at Manele and Lanai City.    You will arrive around 8:20AM.   This gives you plenty of time to warm up.   

The pace of play on Lanai is fast.  You can finish golf in about 3.75 to 4 hours.   Golf on Maui can be much slower.  Some courses you can expect to take 5 hours for a round.  

Challenge at Manele Club House

You can then have a  leisurely lunch at the club house before catching the ferry back.  Or if you choose you can replay The Challenge..

You will likely tee off the Challenge at Manele around 1:00 PM.   Bring your camera.  You will finish the course with plenty of time to relax at the 19th hole- Manele Club House.   The shuttle will pick you up and take you back to the ferry for the 6:45PM departure.    back on Maui by 7:30PM.

Hulopoe Beach on Lanai

  








The family can hang at the Beach and/or visit Lanai City-   Hulopoe Beach at Manele Bay is seconds from the Challenge at Manele and is the beach directly in front of the Four Seasons.   The family can hang out at the beach while he plays golf.   The beach offers public bathrooms for convenience.   You can also make reservations at the Four Seasons to have lunch.   

The family can also go to Lanai City with the Hotel Shuttle.  Remember Lanai is a sleepie island so going to Lanai means you relax and get away from busy life.  Dont expect to shop at Banana Republic...you will find a cute town to sight see. 

  Excursions-   There are various excursions you can do while on Lanai.   Many are affiliated with the Four Seasons.    Our best recommendations are...

Snorkeling on Lanai

• Trilogy Discover Lanai-  Take a catamaran to Lanai with Trilogy.  You will snorkel, swim, see Dolphins, see Lanai City, play on the beach, eat great food...  and so much more.   The Trilogy has been doing this tour for over 30 years.   It has been featured on Opra.   The golfers and family will travel separately to Lanai but you will both be on Lanai and seeing all it offers...

• Go Horse Back Riding-  The Four Seasons Lodge at Koele offers Horse Back Riding from real Hawaiian Paniolo's  (Hawaiian for Cowboys).

UTV Tours on Lanai

• Guided UTV Tours-   Take a guided tour of Lanai on state of the art UTV vehicles.   Get the opportunity to explore remote areas not accessible by car or hiking   The highlight of the trip is the top of the Munro Trail where the scenery is unmatched and is awe-inspiring.   You will see safari like scenery with various wildlife like axis deer or mouflon sheep. 

• Sporting Clays and Archery-  A novice or expert, come enjoy the amenities at Lanai Pine Sporting Clays.
